Amended bill S. 1647, which included study of Aleutian Islanders during World War II, passes Senate.

Senator Ted Stevens, a Republican from Alaska, pushed for the inclusion of Aleuts and Pribilof Islanders in the commission's study. The federal government forced these people into relocation camps without adequate housing or regard for their safety. Expanding the issue to include how Aleuts were treated during World War II broadened the scope and brought in support from the senators and congressmen representing Alaska.
